Glimpses of Maria Rogers' Life Beyond her Letters
Bedford Historical Society
Return
Etching of Maria Rogers' only child to survive to middle age, Benjamin Isaac Ambler. Active in the community, Benjamin Ambler served as the Bedford Town Supervisor from 1854 until 1862. His marriage to Ann Lounsbery produced no heirs. Benjamin Ambler died in 1906 while his wife outlived him by twenty-two years.
The first page of a land transaction between Joseph Ambler and his son.

Joseph Ambler's decision to sell part of his property in 1868 to Benjamin rather than give the land as part of an inheritance package to the only child alludes to Joseph's possible financial troubles in the post-Civil War years.
