By 1860, Alonzo and Mary were living with their newborn daughter, Mattie, in Victory Mills, a village near Saratoga Springs. A weaver by trade, Alonzo worked from at least October of 1861 until August of 1862 at Saratoga Manufacturing Company, a textile factory which opened in Victory Mills in 1846. Ann Robinson, Alonzo's mother-in-law, also worked in the factory.
