North Upper Washington County Townships |
Alonzo Bump was born in 1836 in Granville, a small town in the northeastern part of Washington County, New York, near the Vermont border. Ezra Bump, possibly Alonzo's father, may have been a farmer, a common occupation in the region during the early half of the nineteenth century. He had one younger sister, Lide, with whom he regularly communicated during the Civil War. By then, she lived in Fort Edward, a town eighteen miles southwest of Granville. At the age of eighteen in Argyle, Alonzo married Mary Richards, a woman two years his junior.
